Explore Pendant Lights by Material
Material influences the texture, form and way light moves through a pendant shade. From open natural weaves to smooth resin surfaces, each brings a distinct character to the room.
Natural Texture With Rattan
Lightweight with visible natural variation, rattan pendant lights bring warmth and texture to a room. Open woven forms allow light to filter through the fibres, creating patterns of light and shadow around the shade. Their organic character works comfortably in kitchens, dining rooms and living spaces alongside timber, stone and other natural finishes.
Structured Forms in Bamboo
Bamboo has a clean natural finish with subtle variations in colour and texture. Woven bamboo shades allow light to pass between their slender fibres, highlighting the structure of the design. They work particularly well in kitchens and open-plan rooms, where natural material can soften stone benchtops, timber cabinetry and other solid surfaces.
Tactile Character With Seagrass
With its distinctive fibre and woven surface, seagrass pendant lights bring a grounded, tactile quality to a room. Light filters between the fibres for a softer effect while drawing attention to the weave itself. Seagrass sits naturally alongside timber, stone and neutral finishes in dining rooms, bedrooms and relaxed living spaces.
Soft, Natural Detail With Jute
Jute has a softer fibre texture and subtle colour variation that gives woven shades visual depth. Light passing through the weave highlights the natural character of the material without overpowering the room. Jute pendants suit bedrooms, living areas and dining spaces, particularly where warm neutrals and tactile finishes shape the interior.
For a smoother, more sculptural finish, the Nalia resin designs offer contemporary forms without a woven texture. Explore modern pendant lights for these resin styles.
Find the Right Pendant for Each Room
Placement matters as much as material. Consider what sits beneath your pendant, how you use the room and the amount of visual presence the light needs within the space.
Balance Light Above an Island Bench
Pendants can define an island bench while bringing focused light to the benchtop. One larger shade can create a clear focal point, while a series of smaller designs can follow the length of a longer island. Explore kitchen pendant lights with the proportions of your island and surrounding cabinetry in mind.
Centre Your Dining Setting
A pendant centred over the dining table helps anchor the setting and gives the room a clear focal point. The shape and width of the table can guide the scale and form of the light above it. Browse dining table pendant lights for designs suited to different table sizes and dining spaces.
Bring Focused Light to Quieter Corners
Smaller pendants can sit beside a bed, providing light without taking up space on the bedside table. In living rooms, a pendant can bring focused light to a reading corner or help define a zone within an open-plan space.
How to Choose a Pendant Light
Choosing pendant lights is partly about proportion and partly about how the light needs to work. Size, hanging height, bulb choice and the type of cord set all influence the finished result.
Start With the Right Size
Use the furniture beneath the pendant as a guide. As a general rule, choose a pendant around half to two-thirds the width of the table below it. This gives the shade enough presence to feel balanced without overwhelming the setting.
Check the Hanging Height
Above a dining table or island bench, position the bottom of the shade around 75 to 85 cm above the tabletop, or 90 to 100 cm above the benchtop. Where people walk underneath, allow at least 2.1 m of clear space between the floor and the bottom of the shade.
Choose the Bulb and Colour Temperature
Heartnests pendant shades take standard E26/E27 bulbs. A warm white LED between 2700 and 3000K works well in residential spaces. With woven shades, the bulb also influences how light passes through the fibres and the shadows created around the shade.
Choose Hardwired, Plug-In or Shade Only
Every pendant can also be purchased as the shade only. Its metal ring fits a standard E26/E27 pendant cord, so a compatible existing shade can be swapped without rewiring. Hardwired cord sets come in white, black, brass chain and natural jute and require a licensed electrician. Plug-in options come in natural jute, white, black and clear and do not require an electrician. Explore cord sets and accessories for the available options.
